Details:

The Clinical Counselor –LMSW/LISW/LMFT/LPC works under the general supervision of the Behavioral Health Director. The Clinical Counselor work in collaboration with primary care providers, consulting psychiatrist, and others to help patients with their mental health and/or substance use disorders as an integral part of their overall health care. This may include psychosocial assessment, time-limited counseling appropriate to the primary care setting, consultation with and education of primary care providers about presenting problems, brief problem-solving and crisis interventions with patients in the primary care clinic, monitoring of patient progress, and at times referrals to outside mental health providers and other resources needed by the particular patient.

Experience and Skills:

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marital and Family Therapy from a program accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body.

 Licensure/Certification:

  • Current licensure in South Carolina as a Licensed Independent Social Worker-Clinical Practice (LISW-CP). Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT). Current licensure in SC as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) will also be considered.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum of two years post-master experience. Counseling experience related to assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders
  • Preferred: Prior experience in an ambulatory medical setting, in time-limited psychotherapy or experience/ training in integrative care models of care
  • Ability to perform a thorough psychosocial evaluation using all available information to arrive at a good working diagnosis and differential diagnosis
  • Ability to present and discuss patients succinctly
  • Ability in or willingness to learn time-limited psychotherapy
  • Initiative and stamina to work independently as well as with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in written and oral form in English
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of communication resources and referral procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective networking relationships with community agencies
  • Working knowledge of federal/state/local laws and regulations regarding eligibility for services
